Update 5 August: @Guardiantech hit a million early this morning.
As I write this blog, @Guardiantech has 981,359 followers and is soon going to hit a million. You can view detailed results of followers of various UK newspapers here.
- In a month, @GuardianTech has gained 150,000 followers.
- @GuardianNews secured 3rd position with 27,802 followers, whereas @TimesFashion moved to 2nd with 29,190 followers.
- In total, a 17% increase has been recorded in the total number of followers of UK national newspaper Twitter accounts. The number of followers increased from 1,075,791 to 1,258,044 in the last month, increasing by 182,253.
Methodology
Here I use figures from the Twitter counter API. However, I am looking for a way to automate it with PHP and MySQL. If you can help, please let me know in the comments section below.
One thing that should be noted here: the latest figures are often not available via API. And, a few of the accounts mentioned above, the stats may not be as of August 1. As far as my research is concerned, the random checks I did were all quite accurate.
Well, you may end up thinking that the number of followers has some significant difference.
