As you know, Search Engine Optimization (or SEO) is constantly changing. Almost every week, Search Engines modifies its rules. They do this with every release of an additional algorithm to what they want, and there’s constant progression.
Note that Google has recently launched a new feature that scores websites for their reading level. They might be using one of their reading level assessments algorithm to do this. However, I just felt that it would be fun to see what Google has to say about UK SEO blogs’ reading levels. But first, what does this mean?
It means the next destination for readers would be a well-written website. So if a website’s content is very clear, legible, and easily understood by readers, it will be favored by Search Engines.
There is some measure that determines a website’s Readability Level. Today’s post will teach you how to make sure that your website’s Readability Level is not hindered, and this is a secret weapon in your SEO arsenal.
What is Readability Level and why is it important?
Note that the Readability Level of a text is how easy it is for readers to read and understand. However, there are lots of ways that are used to measure the readability of a text, from the speed of perception to the reflex blink technique. For instance, Microsoft Word tries to measure the Readability Level of a text by making use of a system called the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level.
Note that this method helps to count the number of letters in each word and also the number of words in every sentence. This means that longer words and sentences help in raising the Reading level, which happens to be the required Reading Level of the Reader.
Here’s how the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level scores texts:
- 90.0 – 100.0 – This can easily be understood by an average 11-year-old student
- 60.0 – 70.0 – This can easily be understood by 13- to 15-year-old students
- – 30.0 – This is best understood by university graduates
As you can see, you must understand that the Reading Level doesn’t take into account the actual meaning of the text or how the text ideas are conveyed.
