There is a plethora of information on the Internet today. It is hard to believe what is true and what is not. With the recent developments, Facebook has been trying to introduce policies that will reduce the spread of misinformation and fake news. Some of us might be familiar with the process of editing links on Facebook. Now the question remains whether Facebook’s initiatives to combat the spread of misinformation include the ability to edit links. Read on to learn more!
To combat the spread of disinformation and false news on Facebook, the social media company has decided to remove the ability for any Page to alter the way a link displays on the platform.
If you’ve been employing click-bait tactics on Facebook, you’ll soon be unable to change the link’s headline, description, or image. Many Page admins and marketers have modified the link’s information that Facebook provides automatically in the case of an unappealing photo, a non-clicky title, or even a long description.
But What If You Want To?
There’s a workaround for Facebook’s deprecation of this feature, but it’s still possible to personalize your links. You can do so in one of three ways:
Creative Hub:
Some of the features from Power Editor and Ads Manager may be found in the Creative Hub, allowing you to build ads with editable links.
Power Editor:
In addition, there is a ruse. Once you’ve published an ad, you may go to the “Ads Post” area and publish it as a post on the page. Ads can either be paused or removed at this point. Facebook obtains a guarantee that the content will be of high quality by first going through the ad review process.
Link Ownership:
Until September 12, publishers can use the “Link Ownership” feature, which can be found under the “Publishing Tool” section. In Facebook Help, you can learn everything you need to know about the Link Ownership option and altering links.
For many sites, however, the solution will be to change their webpage such that the “proper” information is generated while the link to a post is included. If you’re editing already published content, you can use the Sharing Debugger Tool to check your URL, which will display you the modified form of your link.
Another option for editing link previews is to use domain verification. To authenticate your domain, you must have a Business Manager installed, as well as admin access to both the Business Manager and the Website, as some file uploading will be necessary on your behalf.
Choose “Add a Domain” from the “Domains” menu on the left. After you’ve added it, you may select between DNS Verification and HTML File Upload to verify your domain.
The bottom line is that although the initiative is aimed to reduce the spread of misinformation, there are still possible ways to edit links. You have read the process above. Link editing isn’t easy and the process is far more complicated and involves a lot of factors.
